For the last four years, I’ve been get­ting my morn­ing cof­fee at Mis­sion Pie, and they do an excel­lent job of sat­is­fy­ing my sweet-tooth too. Last spring Dis­till had the plea­sure of help­ing them bet­ter com­mu­ni­cate what Mis­sion Pie is all about, design­ing a set of cards that describe their busi­ness. The cards are avail­able for free at the cafe. This spring, we went a step fur­ther with Mis­sion Pie’s com­mu­ni­ca­tions pro­gram, design­ing and devel­op­ing a brand new web­site web­site that high­lights their local food sources and an oft chang­ing menu.

In addi­tion to infor­ma­tion about the food, the site includes a sec­tion about the val­ues that drive Mis­sion Pie as a business:

"We are a for profit busi­ness that cares about fair­ness… We make our sourc­ing deci­sions thought­fully in order to make the most of the assets we have as a small busi­ness. Each busi­ness deci­sion is an oppor­tu­nity to improve the health and well-being of our world, our neigh­bor­hood and our staff."

Yes that’s right, Mis­sion Pie prac­tices social and envi­ron­men­tal sus­tain­abil­ity because they believe it’s the right thing to do and because it makes good busi­ness sense. It’s this kind of for­ward think­ing that got us excited about work­ing with Karen & Kristin in the first place.
